IKEA Assembler is a web-based project by two senior students to offer an experience of assembling IKEA furniture through a medium of web. Our goal was to provide easier and clear assembly instruction to the users.
This project consists of the entire workflow from initial sketch, UX research,
web design, prototyping to fully functioning website development.

1. Although furniture companies provide instructions, they are not real photos, but simple illustrations, which does not effectively convey all the assembly steps clearly.
2. Unclear instructions naturally take longer than it should be, and eventually customers would be tired and exhausted by wasting their time and days.
3. Customers end up spending extra money on hiring technicians to assemble their furniture.
These limitations and obstacles raise barriers to entry and make existing customers hesitate to buy self-assembly furniture. To solve these negative aspects, IKEA Assembler was built to minimize obstacles such as complex assembly process, time-consuming and unclear instructions.
We wanted to create an environment where we can play with assembling furniture.
Catherine is a hard working business woman, who often invites her guests to her house. Recently she feels that her outdated guest room needs to be renovated. Since she did not want to spend too much money on the guest room, she bought the furniture from IKEA. However, she really feels exhausted and frustrated with all of these unclear instructions complicated steps that IKEA provided.
Eloise is freshman who needs to buy relatively cheap furniture for her new dorm room. She has a specific list of what she wants to buy from IKEA, but IKEA does not say how many, and how hard the assembly steps are for their furniture. She hopes there is more detailed information that can help her decide which one to buy.
